No. Through this affiliation, Highmark, Allegheny Health Network and Saint Vincent will remain charitable nonprofit organizations committed to serving the communities in which they operate. Saint Vincent will be established as the northern hub of the Allegheny Health Network and the affiliation will expand key clinical services in the northwestern Pennsylvania.
All of the members of the Highmark enterprise have a shared interest to improve and modernize health care. In conjunction with the other parts of the new Allegheny Health Network, the enterprise will work together to create a modern, efficient health care delivery system and ensure the delivery of high-quality care to make health care more affordable and to achieve a more satisfying care experience for patients.
The affiliation will preserve provider choice for Highmark Health Services members in the north western Pennsylvania. Those members will have the security of knowing that they will continue to have access to high-quality services at one of the Erie region’s leading health systems. The affiliation also demonstrates that Highmark is committed to building an alternative, value-driven health care system for all of western Pennsylvania that offers high-quality care at a lower price, and more coordinated patient- and physician-driven medical care.
Saint Vincent will be able to strengthen its hospital and outpatient services and improve health and wellness in the Erie community while assuring the continued delivery of quality medical services by the entire system. Preserving competitive choice of health systems is important not only to Saint Vincent patients but also to independent physicians, including those affiliated with Saint Vincent, so they can offer more choices to their patients and sustain viable office practices.
The affiliation will enhance the economic vitality of the Erie region by sustaining the important employment and economic role that the health system plays in local communities. The affiliation will create greater convenience for patients, maintain the economic vitality of local communities and make key services locally available. Saint Vincent also is committed to working collaboratively with medical training and educational programs in northwestern Pennsylvania to address the shortage of primary care physicians in the region.
